The slice of paradise
It might be small but don't judge Bali by its size because there is plenty going on. Start the day with a massage on the beach and then check out Amed, Lovina and Pemuteran, Bali's cool beach towns where you can relax and do absolutely nothing. For the more adventurous, there is trekking in Munduk, diving in Nusa Lembongan and surfing in Ulu Watu.
What's to love: lush, tropical scenery with a laid-back atmosphere. Bali is having a chic renaissance.
Best beach: Sanur on the south-east coast, with its stretch of coral reef, is a diving hot spot.
See & do: trek in the Sacred Monkey Forest of Padangtegal nature reserve, take a boat tour to Nusa Lembongan island, or visit the art and craft centre of Ubud
